One Day Scholastic at the Luis Salinas Memorial 79th Annual Texas State and Amateur Championships

A one day scholastic event in two sections. 5 rounds, Swiss, G/30;d5. This tournament will be held in conjunction with the Luis Salinas Memorial 79th Annual Texas State and Amateur Championships.  All tournament descriptions, advance entry links, and registration links are found on the event website.

Sections

Championship
Required for players with rating 900 or higher in the May 2024 ratings supplement.

Prizes:
Place Prizes: Trophies to the top 12 individuals and top five teams.

Other Prizes: Medals to plus score (three or more points) finishers that did not receive a trophy.

U900
Available to players with ratings under 900 in the May 2024 ratings supplement and to unrated players.

Other Prizes: Medals to plus score (three or more points) finishers that did not receive a trophy.

Schedule

Round 1 at 10:30 am; rest ASAP with a small lunch break, usually after round 1.

Entry Fee, Changes and Refunds

$39 by 5/19, $49 after. After 5/23 all registration and changes are onsite only.
All refunds must be requested by email and sent to state@texaschess.org. No refunds after 5/20. After 5/23, all registration and changes are onsite only. Changes and withdrawals are subject to a $10 fee.

Up to one 1/2-point bye is available if requested before the end of round 2 and before receiving a full-point bye.

Luis Salinas Memorial 79th Annual Texas State and Amateur Championships

Description: Visit the event website. Organized by the Arlington Club, this is an Annual TCA State Championship tournament USCF and FIDE rated swiss chess tournament in two sections (Championship and Amateur) open to players from all states. There will be 7 rounds in total.

Championship: 7 rounds, Swiss, G/90;+30. Must be rated 2000 or above (Regular rating) by either US Chess or FIDE to play in this section or have had a provable 2000 or higher regular rating in the past. The defending Texas Amateur Champion may also play in this section. Foreign unrated players may play in this section and, at TD/Organizer discretion, may be required to play in this section.

 Place Prizes: $1000/$500/$280
Other Prizes: 2200-2399 $720, U2200 $720. 
Texas State Champion: The highest scoring Texas player(s), including ties, will be named “Texas State Champion.”

Amateur: 7 rounds, Swiss, G/90;+30. Available to players with ratings under 2000 and unrated players.

Place Prizes: $800/$400/$200
Class prizes: (if any) depend on entries.
Texas Amateur Champion: The highest scoring Texas player(s), including ties, will be named “Texas Amateur Champion.”

4-day Round 1 – Fri: 7:15 pm
3-day Round 1 – Sat: 9:30 am
Sections merge in round 2.
Round 2 – Sat: 2:45 pm
Round 3 – Sat: 7:30 pm
Round 4 – Sun: 11:30am
Round 5 – Sun: 5:15pm
Round 6 – Mon: 9:30am
Round 7 – Mon: 2:45pm

Entry Fee: $119, if received by 5/19, else $139, senior (over 65)/handicapped/additional family participant $79 if received by 5/19 else $99.  Scholastic event entry fee is $39 by 5/19, $49 after. After 5/23 all registration and changes are onsite only.

2023 Texas Action Championship

Innovative Chess Solutions is hosting the 2023 Texas Action Championship in  Waco!  This is a USCF dual-rated swiss chess tournament on July 22, 2023 open to all chess players. There will be 5 rounds offered, all in one day. Fifteen grand prix points (Enhanced) will be awarded in the Open section.

Schedule:
● Saturday July 22, 2023
● Blitz (optional side event): 9am – 9:50am (separate registration)
● Round 1: 10:00-11:00am
● Round 2: 11:15am-12:15pm
● Lunch Break
● Round 3: 1:00-2:00pm
● Round 4: 2:15-3:15pm
● Round 5: 3:30-4:30pm
There is no awards ceremony.

Entry:
● For the Open, $38 by 5/20; $50
by 6/17; $55 by 7/15; and $65 thereafter.
● For the under sections, $28 by 5/20; $35 by 6/17;
$40 by 7/15; and $50 thereafter.
● 4SS G/5 Blitz $10 (50% of entry fees returned as prizes)

Prizes/Awards:
● Open section: $500 for first place, $150 for second place and $50 for third place, all of which is unconditionally guaranteed.
● All other sections: $200 for first place, $75 for second place and $25 for third place, with the prizes in each under section being proportionally reduced if less than thirty paid entries (net of refunds) are received for such section.
