The event will be played at the UTRGV Brownsville Campus. Precise building/location details to follow.

Only Texas female residents or students enrolled in secondary or primary schools (including home schools) in Texas may play in this event. This is a USCF rated event (for both Regular and Quick ratings).

Current USCF membership is required.

Current TCA membership is required. For most participants, “Junior Online” membership is most suitable. It costs $3 and allows them to participate in all Texas championships within a year without any additional payment to TCA.

USCF and TCA Memberships will not be processed by the organizers.

There will be 5 sections. Winners in each grade will be declared the Texas State Girls’ Champion of their respective section throughout all of Texas.

Entries on October 11 will be permitted till 9:00 am. Players not registered by the cutoff time shall be paired from Round 2 only, unless the Chief Tournament Director decides otherwise.

One 1/2-point bye is allowed if requested by November 8 at 9:00 am.

Refunds by September 29; $10 refund charge.

5 rounds, Swiss System

The latest version of Swiss Sys will be used. Pairings created by this program are considered legal and will stand even if a pairing is not ideal, especially if pairings have been already posted. Current version is 11.55.

2025 Texas State Women’s Championship

The 2025 Texas State Women’s Championship, taking place October 4–5, is an in-person individual tournament designed to crown the top women chess players in Texas. This year, the event aims to expand interest and create more competitive opportunities for women in the state.

We are excited to partner with Tech Mahindra Global Chess League (GCL) to organize this year’s championship. Notably, this may be the first USCF-rated Texas event held in a corporate setting, adding a unique dimension to the tournament experience.

Additionally, the 2025 edition features the largest prize fund in the history of women’s chess tournaments in Texas underscoring our commitment to supporting and celebrating women in chess.

Open to all women who reside in Texas, titled and untitled players including students

Must be at least 16 years as of Oct 4, 2025

Registration will close once 46 players have signed up, per venue capacity.

Current TCA Membership required – Join Texas Chess Association

(Note: USCF and TCA memberships must be arranged in advance; organizers will not process them onsite.)

$30 – by September 5

$60 – after September 5 and before September 27

$80 – on September 27 and afterwards

FREE entry for FIDE-titled players (WCM, WFM, WIM, and others)

On-site registration (if spots remain): Saturday, 10/04, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Withdrawal on September 29th or later will not receive any refunds.

Fair Play Policy

No phones will be allowed in the playing hall. There will be another room where bags can be left with their coaches/chaperones.
Chief TD will make final decisions on any issues related to any matches.

2024 North/Central Texas State Scholastic Championships

Description: Visit the event website. Organized by the Dallas Chess Club, this is a USCF rated swiss chess tournament open to all scholastic chess players attending Texas schools (including homeschoolers). There will be 7 rounds in total. The tournament will be a three-day event on March 1-3, 2024. A 1/2 point bye available for any one round if notified before Round 2 is paired.

Round times:
Onsite Registration
Friday, 3/1  5:30 – 6:15pm  and Saturday 8 – 8:30am if not completed online.  (Saturday registrants will receive a 1st round 1/2 point bye. Two 1/2-pt. byes allowed as long as one of the byes is for round 1, if requested by the end of Rd. 2.)
Rounds 1 is on Friday evening.
Rounds 2 , 3, and 4 are on Saturday.
Rounds 5 and 6 are on Sunday.

Time controls:
• K-1, Primary,  Elementary, and Middle School JV & Novice: Rounds 1-4 are G/45, d5. Rounds 5-6 are G/60, d5.
• Middle School Championship and all High School: Round 1 is G/45, d5. Rounds 2-4 are G/60, d5. Rounds 5-6 are G/75, d5.

Entry fee: $44 if postmarked before 2/4/2024, $56 if postmarked before 2/25/2024, and $74 thereafter or onsite.  Do not mail after 2/25 as your entry may not be received in time.

Sections and Prizes:
• Trophies or plaques to the top 15 individuals and top 10 teams.
• Special awards for positive scores
(4 and up) that do not win a trophy.
Medals to all participants.
• Trophies MUST be picked up at the awards ceremony (will not be handed out in advance)
• Top 3 players added for team scores. No more than 2 teams per school in each grade.
TCA Scholarships and special prizes also awarded in the High School Section.
