Description: Public speaking and casual play event hosted by Win or Learn Chess Club. Kids will be able to participate in a “kids teach kids” session where they can practice public speaking. Kids who wish to talk will have up to 5 minutes to talk about anything chess related – this could be a memorable game they have played in the past, a famous chess player, the history of chess, some chess tactics/strategies, chess news, etc. There will be casual play for the rest of the meeting
The tournament will consist of a K-5 section and a K-12 section. There will be trophy prizes for both sections. The format of the tournament will be 5 Round Swiss – 15 minutes with 2 second increment. The tournament will be hosted on chess.com. Description: A full day, week-long chess camp open to all scholastic chess players, organized and run by local expert Gary Gaiffe. (This camp replaces the NYOS chess camp scheduled for the same week.)
Campers will be broken into skill level groups. Different topics will be covered depending on which group the camper is in. From tactics to positional play, game analysis to variant play, the camp will be both instructional and entertaining. The final day will include a camp-wide tournament.
