* Elementary sections are restricted to Elementary students. Middle School sections are restricted to Middle School students. Homeschoolers should follow traditional age guidelines, with 6th grade age players in Middle School.

If turnout for any one section is small (under 17 players), we may (or may not) merge it with another section having the same time controls and neighboring ratings or grades.

Eligibility

This tournament is an official Texas Chess Association sanctioned event. TCA has specific guidelines on section placement. If you are unsure of which section you should choose, please read a description of the TCA guidelines.

“Under” sections are only for students meeting the rating criteria. All players who are new to tournaments are eligible for their age appropriate ‘under’ section. (Look up your player’s rating here. Please email ask your chess coach for placement information, or email the completechess@gmail.com.

You must have a USCF ID and your membership cannot expire before February 28, 2024.

Schedule and Round Times

Round time Championship Sections and Adult section:
• In person registration at 8:00-8:45 am if not done online.
• Rounds start promptly on Feb 17th at 9:00am, 10:15am, 11:30am 1:15pm and 3:00pm.

• Rounds 1, 2, & 3: G/30;d5
• Rounds 4, & 5: G/45;d5.

Round times for all ‘Under’ Sections (U1000,U800,U600,U400):

• In person registration at 8:00-8:45 am if not done online.
• Rounds start promptly on Feb 17th at 10:00am, 11:15am, 12:20pm, 1:00pm and 2:10pm.

• All Rounds: G/30;d5

Speed games will determine the winner if multiple perfect scores occur.

Awards

Individual or team winners of each championship section are declared the Texas Region VI champion for their respective grade group.
Individual  trophies are awarded in each advertised scholastic section, even if merged
Individual cash prizes (50% payout based on 20 entries) are awarded in the Adult section (see website for specifics).
Medals are awarded to all non-trophy players with positive scores in non-adult sections.
Team trophies are awarded separately in each section. School teams count the top four players (minimum two) in their respective sections. Exact number and division of trophies will depend on advance entries for individuals and teams.

ACC USCF rated G/90 Standard Swiss

This slow swiss takes place over 3 weeks, with games on January 6th, 13th, and 20th. G/90 with 30 sec. increment per move. 3 round Swiss. Sections dependent on turnout. $15 entry. Online registration/payment  requested, but onsite entry is ok. 

USCF membership must not expire before January 31, 2024. Please renew with the USCF (https://new.uschess.org/form/membership) before coming to the event.

Austin Chess Club is a wonderful atmosphere for the mature, experienced chess player. The event has the potential to run late. Scholastic players are welcome, but expected to play quiet, serious chess. One round may last upwards of 4 hours.

Last chance registration happens onsite 3:00-3:45pm on January 6th. No pre-registration for round 1 is necessary. Email pre-registration is accepted; however, online payment  is preferred)! If you email to register, you must show up and pay no later than 3:45pm! First round begins at 4pm. Please be on time! Participants who wish to enter the tournament late may email Austin Chess Club. Players found with any device during the game may lose the current game. Turn in cell phones at the arbiters’ desk before each round. No electronics are allowed in the playing hall unless they are checked in with the arbiter.
–Default/forfeit time: 60 minutes unless the arbiter decides otherwise. White’s clock will be started at the start of the round even if the players are not present.
-The organizers request that all players arrive on time for each round.

Chess For Trees 2023 Championship

The tournament will consist of a K-5 section and a K-12 section. There will be trophy prizes for both sections. The format of the tournament will be 5 Round Swiss – 15 minutes with 2 second increment. The tournament will be hosted on chess.com. You will need a chess.com account to play the tournament.  This tournament is NOT USCF rated.

Registration closes on December 7th at midnight.

Prizes
Top 3 in each section will receive trophies.  Number of trophies given out may increase based on the number of participants.

Fair Play
Tournament results will be finalized after 1-2 weeks in order to give chess.com time to do a fair play analysis. If chess.com determines you have cheated then you will not be eligible for any prizes and your chess.com account might be closed. Chess.com’s decision is final.

Technical Difficulties
Unfortunately due to the nature of virtual tournaments nothing can be done if you lose a match or face any other difficulties due to internet issues and other technical difficulties. Note: You will not be refunded for any loss due to technical difficulties.

More Instructions
Once you have registered and paid the registration fee of $15 please join the “Chess For Trees” club on chess.com. The club is private.

Note: Only people who have paid the registration fee will be admitted to the club.

On the day of the tournament sign into your chess.com account and go to https://www.chess.com/live and then on the tournaments tab you should see our tournament. Please join the tournament and wait for the rounds to start. The next round will start after all games are finished. The whole tournament will last for no more than 3-4 hours.

Please only join the tournament for your section, as if you fail to do this then you will end up playing the wrong section, and will not be counted for prizes

If you’re playing the K-12 section then join the 2023 Championship – K-12 tournament, and if you’re playing in the K-5 section join the 2023 Championship – K-5 tournament.

Both sections will start at 11 AM CST on 12/09/2023.
