2026 Austin Summer Open Tournament Registration

Price range: $64.00 through $89.00

An in person, 5 round USCF regular-rated chess tournament taking place Friday August 7th through Sunday August 9th with an option to play round 1 on Saturday, August 8th. This tournament is for all players, but a mature and patient approach to the game is required.

Entries received fewer than 45 minutes before the start of round 1 for 3-day schedule or 30 minutes before round 1 for 2-day schedule will receive a half point bye and begin play in round 2.

This tournament’s sections have restricted entry:

Championship (2000+)
This section is intended for USCF members with ratings 2000 and up! (Players with August 2026 Supplement ratings 1900-1999 may enter the Championship section for a $50 surcharge, but will only qualify for place prizes).

Reserve (1700-1999)
This section is intended for USCF members with ratings 1700 to 1999. (Players with August 2026 Supplement ratings 1600-1699 may enter the Reserve section with $50 added to the entry fee).

Intermediate (1400-1699)
This section is intended for USCF members with ratings 1400 to 1699. (Players with August 2026 Supplement ratings 1300-1399 may enter the Intermediate section with $50 added to the entry fee).

Club (1000-1399)
This section is intended for USCF members with ratings 1000 to 1399. (Players with August 2026 Supplement ratings 900-999 may enter the Club section with $50 added to the entry fee).

Novice (U1000)
This section is for USCF members with ratings up to 1000.

Unrated players should register for their requested section and contact the registrar (austinchessclub@austinchesstournaments.com) to present their qualifications.  All online and OTB experience, foreign and domestic, must be disclosed.

Rated players who are unsure of their August Supplement Rating should register for their requested section.  When the August Supplement is published you will be moved to the appropriate section unless you pay an upcharge (must qualify to play up).  If your August supplement rating is below the minimum for your section but your LIVE rating meets that minimum, you may contact us and request to play up. Contact the registrar (austinchessclub@austinchesstournaments.com) and request to pay an upcharge. You may also pay at the point of registration. If section reaches capacity it is closed to all requests to play up.

Players have the choice when to play round 1.
The 3-day schedule plays round 1 on Friday evening 8/7/26 at 7:15pm.
The 2-day schedule plays round 1 on Saturday morning 8/8/26 at 9:30am. You MUST choose a schedule.

Each section is for players within a specific rating range. Players under, yet within 100 points of the section minimum in the August 2026 Rating Supplement are allowed to register for a $50 addition to the entry fee, and will only qualify for place prizes if playing up to the Championship section. Paying now will secure your spot in the section, assuming your rating qualifies in August. You may also wait until the August 2026 Supplement has been published to pay the upcharge. Players whose LIVE rating at the time of the event meets the play-up minimum may also request to play up. No other exceptions.

Only check a box if you need a bye in that specific round. Most players play all rounds.

The refund policy is outlined clearly on the tournament description page. Exceptions will not be granted.

Registrant Info

Verify your USCF membership ID and expiration by visiting USCF’s Member Services Area. You may purchase a new USCF membership or renew yours here at any time before completing your payment on ACT. If you are purchasing a new USCF membership (or requesting a JTP ID) with your order, please enter 99999999 in the USCF ID field when registering for your tournament section.
