Looking for a place to meet other chess players? Try out a new opening without trashing your rating? Spar with strong chess players of all ages? Eat dinner, relax, and play a game? Look no further than Dobie Mall. Centrally located just south of the UT Campus at the intersection of MLK and Guadalupe, Dobie Mall is a great venue for (relatively) casual chess!
Come up to the 2nd floor, near the movie theater on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month, and you'll find chessboards, clocks, and great chess players. With 3 Masters and multiple experts in regular attendance, there's always someone strong to play in your next round.
Check-in begins before 6:45 and the first round begins at 7:00pm. No registration form required! No preregistration necessary. We play a 5 round G/10 unrated swiss tournament of standard chess. Touch move and other USCF rules apply. 3 second delay. Each player contributes $1 to the 'pot', and all money is redistributed at the end of the tournament to 1st place, 2nd place, and one or more 'under' categories. All players establish a 'Dobie rating' with regular play. No USCF membership is necessary. Bring a chess set and clock, if possible.
