2025 Austin Winter Open Tournament Registration

An in person, 5 round USCF regular-rated chess tournament taking place on Saturday, January 4th AND Sunday, January 5th with an option to play round 1 on Friday, January 3rd. This tournament is for all players, but a mature and patient approach to the game is required.

Entries received fewer than 90 minutes before the start of round 1 of the chosen schedule receive a half point bye and begin play in round 2.
This tournament’s sections have restricted entry:
Championship
This section is intended for USCF members with ratings 2000 and up! (Players with January 2025 Supplement ratings 1900-1999 may enter the Championship Section for a $25 surcharge, but will only qualify for place prizes.) Current USCF membership required.
Reserve
This section is intended for USCF members with ratings 1700 to 1999! (Players with January 2025 Supplement ratings 1600-1699 may enter the Reserve Section for a $25 surcharge.) Current USCF membership required.
Intermediate (U1700)
This section is intended for USCF members with ratings 1400 to 1699; however, all players rated under 1700 are eligible (no surcharge required). Current USCF membership required.
Novice (U1400)
This section is for USCF members with ratings up to 1399! Current USCF membership required.
Unrated players should register for their requested section and contact the registrar (austinchessclub@austinchesstournaments.com) to present their qualifications. All online and OTB experience, foreign and domestic, must be disclosed.
Rated players who are unsure of their January Supplement Rating should register for their requested section. When the January Supplement is published you will be moved to the appropriate section unless you pay an upcharge (must qualify to play up). If your Jan supplement rating is below the minimum for your section (Reserve or Championship) but your LIVE rating meets that minimum, you may contact us and request to play up. Contact the registrar (austinchessclub@austinchesstournaments.com) and request to pay an upcharge. You may also pay at the point of registration. That fee is non-refundable. If section reaches capacity it is closed to all requests to play up.
