I hope everyone had a relaxing and safe summer. This is just a quick email to pass along some question to all that have been sent to me regarding the GCC chess tournament. Q: Is the entry fee going up at the GCC? A: No, the entry fee for this season 2009-2010 will remain the same (which is $5.00 per player). Q: Do girls get free entry for the first GCC chess tournament on September 19th? A: No, But the GCC will have a few tournaments during the 2009-2010 season where girls will play for free (those dates have not been determined yet). Q: My son/daughter has moved to a new school this year and the new school does not have a chess club can they still attend tournament at the GCC? A: Yes, the GCC gives out team and individual awards so everyone is welcome at the GCC (whether they are a member of a chess club or not). Q: Do you mind if I post the GCC flyer you send out at my school? A: I don’t mind, as long as you get permission first from a school official i.e.: principal, teacher, or club sponsor. Q: Will there be a primary division at the GCC this season? A: Yes. I am going to elaborate on this question. My preference is to have all four divisions playing during each tournament (Primary, Elementary, Middle, and High School), but it all depends on participation for that tournament. I need to have a minimum of six players in each division to run all four divisions. If any division falls short of the minimum six players, that division will be cut from that tournament. Q: How are the divisions broken up at the GCC? A: By the grade the player is in, his/her grade level. Primary is Pre-K – 3rd grade, Elementary Pre-K – 5th grade, Middle 6th – 8th grade, and High School 9th – 12th. Hope to see everyone on September 19th to kick off the first Guadalupe Community Center Chess Tournament, of 2009-2010. Thanks, Albert
