Sections:
The Scholastic Section ($18 early entry) is a 5 round swiss open to all players K-12, rated below 1500. The day before the tournament, the list of players will be divided into sub-sections based upon ability, i.e. rating. Each scholastic sub-section will have between 20 & 30 participants. Each participant should be playing against players of a very similar strength, usually within 200 rating points. We hope these pairings will give all kids a chance to succeed! The NOVEMBER 2008 supplement will be used to determine ratings. Registrations received after 5:00PM, Friday, November 14th are not guaranteed a first round game. The Open Section ($25 early entry) is a 4 round swiss open to all ages. ALL players rated above 1500 must play in the Open Section. Scholastic players wishing to play in the Open Section must have reached 1400 at some point in their rating history. All adults play in the Open Section. Contact the registrar if you have questions about these restrictions. Ineligible entries will be placed in an appropriate scholastic section and $5 refunded.
We will follow USCF rules including: touch-move, mandatory clocks if available, and notation. Primary players will be excused from taking notation. A time penalty may be assessed for students in other sections who do not choose to take notation. Players must know how to play the game of chess! This is a rated tournament, so current USCF membership is required. If you are unsure if you are a member, submit USCF dues and we will process your membership forms.
